Overview

This patented fully automatic palletized drum filler, model ADF-5540, can fill steel, plastic, or fiber, 55-gallon drums, with or without a pallet. It is designed to find the bung opening, position the lance over the opening, automatically fill to the desired weight, and repeat for all containers on the pallet all without operator intervention. Optionally, it can remove and replace the bungs, and dust caps. The tested fill rate of water is four drums every four to five minutes, which allows for the load driving in and out of the filling station.

  • Camera/sensor to locate the bung of each drum
  • Filling lance and drip pan assembly
  • The lance carriage moves in/out & left/right automatically
  • Optional automatic bung removal/ replacement tool
  • Optional dust cap placement & crimping
  • An option is available to fill IBC/totes with automatic removal and replacement of lids as well.

Description of Operation

This automatic four drum filling machine, model ADF-5540, is a top and sub-surface filler to fill four, 55-gallon drums with or without a pallet.

  • A load of four drums is conveyed into the filling station and stops by photo eye.
  • A camera/sensor device automatically moves over the load to locate each bung
  • A bung removal tool is used to remove the bung from each drum
  • Each bung is held until the drum is filled then it’s replaced with the same drum
  • The boom and lance carriage move into position to start the fill cycle
  • Each drum is automatically tarred to zero weight before filling
  • When liquid reaches the lance tip the machine shifts into fast fill cycle
  • Near the top, it shifts to slow speed to top of the drum and minimize foaming
  • When filled to the designated weight, the lance retracts to his home position
  • The bung is automatically replaced onto the filled drum
  • The bung removal and filling cycle is repeated for all subsequent empty drums
  • When all containers are filled, the load will drive out allowing a new load to enter
  • The tested cycle rate, with water, is four drums / five minutes, or 48 drums/hour
